WIXÁRIKA REGIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE DEFENSE OF WIRIKUTA.

AS OF DECEMBER 8, 2020, COLOTLÁN, JALISCO.

Pronouncement

TO THE MASSIVE AND ALTERNATIVE MEDIA. TO OUR FOLLOWERS AND ALLIES TO ORGANIZED CIVIL SOCIETY. TO THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC. TO THE MEXICAN STATE. WE THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRESENCE.

RECALLING: May the Wixárika People since time immemorial safeguard their cosmogony, their traditional practices, their form of spiritual and organizational organization, and thereby keep their culture current and alive as part of the cultural and historical heritage and legacy of the earliest deities, and since then it has been and will remain jealous of its heritage.

Because of the above, the traditional, civil and agrarian authorities that conform the Wixárika Regional Council for the Defence of Wirikuta (Council) we affirm our relationship with our older brother the Blue Deer-Tamatsi Kauyumarie as our highest deity and that lives in the Wirikuta desert which in turn is represented in the Híkuri-Peyote and with which we enter in communication in the ceremonies that we perform year after year, with which the lives of Wixaritari communities are guided.

The reason why we reject any attempt, privatization, marketing, cultural appropriation, trafficking or dispossessment attempted against our people, we also disown any attempt to reclassify the legal terms and transform aspects of consumption, research and alleged peyote conservation, whether in Mexico, the United States, Canada or anywhere in the world.

Likewise, we disown for all legal purposes the document denominated "Pronouncement of brotherhood and support for indigenous leadership in the sacred theme of híkuri-peyote for the indigenous tribes of the United States of America, organized as "National Council of the Native American Chuch of Northamerica, Canada and Mexico (NCNACNA, Inc.) -"Indigenous Peyote Conservation Iniciative (IPCI)", dated of May 13, 2020 showing the signatures of the authorities of the communities that make up the Wixárika Regional Council for the defense of Wirikuta, since it does not correspond to the document authorized for publication, so we will proceed accordingly to our right towards whom results responsible.

We reiterate that we do not endorse any action that organizations, associations, groups, etc., intend to enforce this document and demand the cessation of the use of the name of the Wixárika Regional Council for the Defense of Wirikuta that has not been approved in the assemblies of each community that are part of the Council, in addition, knowledge is made to organized civil society and the media that the Wixárika Regional Council for the Defence of Wirikuta has not been involved in any way, nor has it authorized any person, group or organization in anything related to Híkuri-Peyote.

Our only commitment is one of life: with the Híkuri-Peyote. In recent years we have witnessed actions of predation, theft and trafficking of our sacred plant, so we are sure and sure that a legal opening would lead to this continuing in an excessive way and in which we will have no decision or control in the protection of a species that is itself endangered for the reasons mentioned above.

Because of the above, and in the face of the unhinged threats that we live in our territories and sacred places, as in the case of our botanical garden of Wirikuta that is not only in danger our sacred plant but a whole wisdom and knowledge that our deities transcend us in every prayer and song, and therefore the extermination of an entire tradition and culture, such as the Wixárika. Under this reality that we live in our territories and sacred places and above all so that life continued for all, and our culture is kept alive, we object in absolute to the exploitation of natural resources, minerals and any attempts to strip and privatize that will conflict against our heritage that we traditionally occupy.

In that sense we raise our voices so that our essence of life is respected by all.

ATTENTIVELY

The Wixárika Regional Council for the Defense of Wirikuta composed of the Traditional, Civil and Agrarian Authorities of the Communities of Santa Catarina Cuexcomatitlán, San Sebastián Teponahuaxtlán and Tuxpan of the municipalities of Mezquitic and Bolaños, Jalisco and Bancos de San Hipólito municipality of Mezquital, Durango, Mexico.
